It's Time To Change the Trends

If you are a drunk driver, I implore you to change your ways before one bad night effects tons of people for a lifetime. If you are not a drunk driver and just reading this blog for personal interest, I thank you and hope you from here on out condemn drunk driving and those who do it. The cartoon above is true in every way and I wish my friend Rod could have just been on the wall of shame.

After reading my story and the statistics of drunk driving, you might have been inspired enough to selflessly help fight against drunk driving. Some people who want to help with this social dilemma sometimes just don't know where to start. There are plenty of ways that you could make a difference.

M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) has many outlets for anyone from volunteers to people who just want to donate. Also they sponsor many opportunities for the public to lobby for certain legislation that is about to be passed in states as well as national. Also, if you are a student, S.A.D.D. (Students Against Drunk Driving) is in partnership with M.A.D.D. to eventually eliminate drunk driving.

No one deserves to have to suffer from someone else's terrible decision.... let alone a whole community. If you dont want to necessarily get too involved with an organization, then please tell anyone that you know who drinks and drive the dangers of that action... not just for him, but for everyone on the road when he/she does that. Trust me when I say you dont wanna see them turn up on the "wall of stone"...

The Story of Rod

Rod was on my travel hockey team and went to my rival high school. He was a senior when I was a sophomore. Great kid.. never really lost his temper or make more bad decisions then the regular teenager. It was his senior prom. His girlfriend and him got into a fight as most relationships do.

However, because this fight happened on the night of prom, they were both drunk. The girlfriend went home from the after prom fiesta and Rod decided to stay and drink with his friends. Obviously that didn't stop them from talking via text messages.

After they had "made-up" via texts, everyone was already passed out from the party and it was extremely late. But because of the puppy love he wanted to see her.. On the way their he skidded off the road and into a light pole.. Do you think about how many people would be effected if something were to happen to you if you drink and drive, let alone anyone who knows the possible other person who is killed that has nothing to do with the criminal activities?

My entire high school was effected... There were grief counselors at my school for 2 weeks and he didn't even go to my school. Everyone I knew was caught entirely off guard by this awful incident. So please... next time you think to yourself or are in a situation anything like that... please remember Rod's story, so that you don't make the same mistake he did.

The Truth About Drunk Driving

Joshalyn Robinson (shown in the image above) suffered the most dire consequences from someone else's decision to drink and drive. Now her family has to deal with that grief and loss because of something they could not have foreseen nor prevented. However, there are movements that have been gaining major headway in the battle against drunk driving.

Some of the drunk drivers out there consider themselves "safe drunk-drivers" because they in-fact go under the speed limit and that is only when they have to.... (I have never heard that before.........) To tell you the truth, the majority of drunk drivers do not share the same mentality. In fact 50-75% of drunk driving offenders whom had the license suspended continue to drive anyway.

These are the same people who have the mentality to drink and drive 87 times on average before they get caught by the police. That is 87 more times these people not only put their own life in jeopardy, but everyone driving on the road when the made the decision to do such a thing. The fact that in 2008 (just one year in our country) 11,773 people died due to alcohol related crashes is frightening.

The number of people arrested per year due to drunk driving is extremely alarming: 1.46 million were arrested in 2006. people arrested b It is because of people whom have mentalities like those that produce endless amounts of grief for not only the victim(s) but everyone who knew the victim(s).

Introduction

What this blog strives to achieve is not only to raise awareness on the dangers of drunk driving, but to help alongside other organizations to put an end to this social issue. Throughout this blog I will give the background information on the dangers of drunk driving as well as provide a story of how the dangers of drunk driving effected me indirectly, and finally give you the outlets to extend your support to organizations that strive to eliminate the possibility of suffering because of this social dilemma.
